A few of our favourite decor tips

As a mother to two little humans and three not so little fur babies, I make a point to look out for décor pieces that are low maintenance, durable and of course they also have look good too.

Here are my 5 favourites right now:

A simply stylish occasional chair:

Must have generous propositions and be beautifully crafted. I love oak in its natural shade– and the new Houtlander highback armchair ticks these boxes; it’s clean but not cold and the perfect balance between simplicity and their signature style.

It is equally comfortable in the living room as the dining room and even in a corner in the bedroom. A contemporary classic; and to sweeten the deal they only use sustainably harvested oak.

The ultimate Sofa
Schloomphy and cocooning-you won’t want to get up. Anything that is super comfy and made up in a washable linen cover is right up my alley. You’re going to spend a fair amount of time on it- so it needs to look and feel good. Ample dimensions, essentially a nest you won’t want to leave- versatile and the whole family can snuggle on it for movie night.

And for this I choose The Vetsak Sofa, the comfort change-maker. Mix & match fabrics and sizes, and click-in additional Modules and Sides to create your signature Sofa. Custom design and oh so comfy. Which is what one aspires to right? And the cherry on top- its handmade, ethically produced & 100% Vegan.

A few Flock Shop scatter cushions will complete the sofa- I’d suggest the Fern square paired with rectangle cushions in Broad stripe in Taupe or for those who prefer a bolder looker – try the Bird of Paradise in Charcoal square cushion with the complementary Broad Stripe in Taupe

Statement Headboards
And then we come to beautiful headboards. I am loving Design Store’s cane headboards – Peacock headboards. They create a modern vintage feeling to any bedroom.

Each headboard is handmade using the highest quality cane in South Africa.

Available in single, three quarter, double, queen, and king sizes.

It’s elegant yet fun and adds a touch of whimsy to a space for grown-ups and children alike.

Throw:
Everyone loves a great blanky- and this beauty doubles as a throw and blanket. One from a range of limited edition blankets, designed by South African artists. This blanket is called ‘Endless Summer’ and was designed by artist Janet Lightbody in collaboration with Something Good Studio. It’s equally comfortable in the living room, bedroom and patio as well as a picnic blanket.

It’s important to me to have a consistent look throughout the home so that there is flow. This also means one will have versatility and be able to move different furniture and decor pieces between rooms and still maintain the look.

Focus on having larger items like couches and curtains in neutral shades and accessorise with pattern and colour in accent pieces like scatter cushions and throws. These are less expensive and labour intensive to replace and easy to change up to create a new look.
